What is Dye Sublimation?
Dye sublimation is really a two part process: First you need to print an image onto a special paper using a printer that can accommodate the special dye sublimation inks. Dye sublimation printers range from small desktop printers to very large format printers for printing large banners and signage that you can find either outside or in places like restaurants, shopping malls or other large community gathering places. Here at Lucky Dog, we use small format dye sublimation to create vibrant images on our wide variety of products.
The second part of the dye sublimation process is heat transfer. At Lucky Dog we use a heat press and other specialty presses like mug presses or cap presses.
Some substrates (or products) can accept the dye sublimation ink with just heat alone. An example is a 100% polyester t-shirt. With other products, the surface that is to be sublimated needs to be coated with a special solution to accept the inks.
We are very fortunate to have a very large selection of products that are pre-treated for the dye sublimation process. We also have specialty products that allow us to transfer to just about any product you can think of.
